Young Parent Support Program

At Sharon Van Cleave Child Care Centre, we offer a Young Parent Support Program facilitated by our Parent Program Coordinator to support student parents from Mount Royal Collegiate and Royal West Campus to achieve success with their academic pursuits as well as to develop their confidence and skill as parents. This program is accessible for students under 22 years of age on the first day of term and are attending a high school level program that is free of charge to them. Our Parent Program Coordinator also works in partnership with the Inclusion Coordinator and Pedagogical Mentor to provide children and families with support needed to aid healthy development.

Young Family Support Programming Includes:

  • Nobody’s Perfect Parenting Program (6-8 week program twice a year)
  • Cooking Club Program (once a month on early dismissal days)
  • Weekly noon groups that meet to discuss a variety of topics presented by guest speakers while enjoying a tasty, nutritious lunch
  • Individual Supports (assistance in accessing medical, legal, and social supports, homework help, family planning support, and support during crisis)

Saskatoon Early Childhood Education Demonstration Centre Partnership with Saskatchewan Polytechnic

The Saskatoon Early Childhood Education Demonstration Centre has a partnership with the Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s Early Childhood Education program and faculty. Students from this program use the observation booths and are in the center’s rooms as part of their coursework. Educators give presentations to the students to further support the students’ learning while keeping our knowledge base updated based on current practice. These experiences have become an integral part of the Early Childhood Education program at the Saskatoon campus and are coordinated by the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Liaison.
